October is a special month for credit unions everywhere, and Thursday, October 16, 2025, is an extra special day—it’s International Credit Union (ICU) Day! It’s a day to reflect on the unique, people-first philosophy of credit unions and to thank the members who make everything we do possible. This year’s theme, “Cooperation for a Prosperous World,” is all about how working together, locally and globally, can make life better for everyone.
Why Credit Unions Are Different
Credit unions aren’t like your typical banks. We’re member-owned, not-for-profit, which basically means when you join Fond du Lac Credit Union, you’re more than just a member—you’re an owner. That also means the money we make goes back to you in the form of lower fees, better rates, and services designed around your needs.
We also believe in local decision-making and building financial strength right here in our community. For us, banking isn’t just about numbers—it’s about people. At the heart of it, we care about people over profit, and every decision we make is focused on helping you and our community thrive.
A Global Idea That Hits Close to Home
The “Cooperation for a Prosperous World” theme also ties into the International Year of Cooperatives, highlighting how cooperatives like ours make a difference all around the globe. Here at Fond du Lac Credit Union, we see that impact locally every day—through affordable loans, financial education, and supporting members in reaching their goals.
We’re proud of the difference we’ve made together over the past year. Some highlights include:
- Helping members finance their dreams by funding over 400 affordable loans.
- Awarding $2,000 in scholarships to local students.
- Donating $6,250 to 7 local organizations.
Thank You for Being Part of Our Credit Union Family
But none of this would be possible without you—our members. Your trust and loyalty allow us to keep growing and giving back. ICU Day is the perfect reminder that together, we’re building a brighter, more prosperous world, one cooperative at a time.
